Sponsorship-01[v1].png

Last year, the Bear Claw Classic raised enough support to provide a month’s worth of shelter, counseling, and empowerment services. This year, we are committed to doing even more, but we can’t do it alone!

By partnering with this event—and other generous businesses here in South Walton—your business or brand can make a lasting investment in women worldwide, promote and preserve our parks, and advertise your business to the thousands of individuals exposed to our event this year.

Having featured Grayton Beach State Park’s Flatwoods Trail and the Western Lake Loop in 2018, this year the BCC will showcase the Eastern Lake Trail network, which spans some of South Walton’s best-preserved natural landscape.

Check-in

What time should I arrive?

Please be sure to arrive at least 25 minutes prior to your designated start time to allow for parking, check-in, and final course debriefs. If you are late to the start line due to extenuating circumstances, our timing volunteers will do there best to offset your delayed start.

Is there parking at the trailhead?

Yes, there is limited parking at the trailhead. You may be forced to park along CR 395. If required to do so, please be sure to park in way that your vehicle is completely off the tarmac and is not blocking access roads, other trailheads, or signage.

When/where is check-in?

Check-in will take place the morning of the run from 6:25 AM to 7:10 AM. Please be sure to arrive at least 25 minutes prior to your designated start time, but no earlier than 6:25 AM. Please either have a print copy of your registration or your confirmation email ready for a volunteer to scan to complete your check-in.

Course

Will the course be marked?

Yes, each distance directly corresponds to a specific trail marked and maintained by the Florida Forestry Service. In addition, our team will mark key sections of the trail to ensure the course is both safe and navigable. However, it is your responsibility as a participant to know and follow the course.

Will there be aid stations?

Yes, aid stations will be set-up as close to every 1.5 miles as possible.

What will be served at the aid stations?

TBD

Will I get wet/muddy?

Probably. While our team, and the Florida Forestry Service, have done their best to navigate over and around sections of subject to standing water and mud, participants should be prepared to deal with water and mud.

What if I have an issue on the trail?

Every runner will be provided emergency contact information to reach our team at any time. That said, we embrace the buddy system and recommend running with a partner who can help immediately.

Will medical aid be available?

Yes, self-serve first aid kits will be available at each of the aid stations. In addition, an off-duty medical professional will be onsite.

Is there a cut-off time?

Yes, but only to ensure participants’ safety. Volunteers will begin sweeping the course at 8:45 AM to ensure all participants are safely navigating the course.

The cut-offs for each distance will be as follows:

Honey Pot 6k: 1h 30 mins (8:42 AM)
Blackberry 9k: 1h 50 mins (8:58 AM)
Sassafras 17k: 2h 40 mins (9:45 AM)

If you find yourself outside the cutoff time and have not made contact with a volunteer sweeping the course, please contact the Run Director at XXX-XXX-XXXX or report to the nearest aid station.

Timing/Results

Is the run timed?

Yes, the run will be timed by volunteers; however, the Bear Claw Classic (BCC) is a charity trail run. So, while our team will do its absolute best to record times down to the millisecond, we encourage participants to see the BCC as a purposeful run through the woods with friends—not an opportunity to set personal records.

Where will I be able to review my results?

Results will both be posted to Fit For Hope’s website as well as emailed to all participants.

Will there be awards?

Yes, awards will be given to the first male and female participants to finish each distance.

Will there be an awards ceremony?

No, given the potent heat and humidity of summer on the Emerald Coast, awards will be distributed as earned. Of course, we encourage everyone to stick around and cheer others across the finish line under the shade of a tent, where refreshments and bear claws baked by the incomparable Black Bear Bread Co. bear will be served.

Post-Run

Will there be things to do after the run?

Yes, refreshments and bear claws a la Black Bear Bread Co. will be served under the shade of a tent after the run. There will also be music, corn hole, and limited edition swag for sale.

How late can I stay after the run?

As late as you’d like! That said, our team will finish breaking down 30 minutes after the last participant crosses the finish line or has been escorted off the course by volunteers.
